ERIBULIN : a new drug to treat breast cancer
Eribulin is a synthetic ketone analogue of the marine sponge
halichondrin B, natural mitotic inhibitor found in Japan’s pacific Coast.
- Eribulin, first drug improves the survival rate 20 % without combining with any other drugs and shows minor toxicitthan any other chemotherapeutics.
Mechanism of Action
1.
Acts as a unique
inhibitor of microtubule dynamics, binding predominantly to a small number of
high affinity sites of microtubules.
2.
Eribulin exerts its
anticancer effect by triggering apoptosis and irreversible mitotic blockade,
blocks cell division and forms toxic components for the tumor cells.

Januvia: a
new anti diabetic drug
Sitagliptin phosphate (Januvia ) has been approved by
USFDA for the management of type 2 diabetes.
This lowers blood sugar level by blocking DPP-4 enzyme.
MOA
DPP-4 is responsible for the breakdown of proteins, which
stimulates the insulin producing cells after a meal.
So by inhibiting DPP-4 insulin level can be maintained, and it
prolongs the release of insulin.
Dose
1. 100 mg
once a day and adjusted based on renal function.
2. Need
not be taken along with meal, as other classes of anti-diabetics
Drug interaction
Observed
with tenormin – beta blocker, MAOIs, bactrim, NSAIDs and probenecid.
Side effects
Sore throat and
head ache
